Govt bans 59 Chinese apps
The authorities of India have decided to ban fifty-nine apps of Chinese origin as border tensions simmer in Ladakh after a violent, deadly face-off among the Indian and Chinese armies. The listing of apps banned with the aid of the authorities includes TikTok, that is extraordinarily popular.
The authorities announced the ban on the fifty-nine Chinese apps (full list below) Monday night(29/6/2020). The government said these apps had been engaged in work that has been prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity and defence of India.
A government press release pronouncing the ban stated: “The Ministry of Information Technology, took this decision under sect. 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the applicable provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information via Public) Rules 2009
and given the emergent nature of threats has decided to block 59 apps given that given records available they’re engaged in some work that is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the country and public order”.
In the press, release we found that the Indian government information technology also get concerns from citizens regarding the safety of data and risk to privacy regarding the operation of certain apps”.
